PUTTING LIFE INTO WORK-LIFE
BALANCE
A
cautionary tale: The inspiration behind Women
on the Move.
A
busy professional life had driven Pam, the founder of Women on the Move to the point where there was little time in her
life for anything other than work. By the time she reached her
mid-forties her professional responsibilities had increased giving the
impression of modern ‘success’. But the price of this success was
her giving up the competitive sport she had enjoyed all her life and
falling into bad habits of nutrition, living on fast food because she
didn’t have time to do grocery shopping or cook. The prospect of
becoming a morbidly obese fifty-something with its associated health
risks was enough to spur her into action. She changed her eating habits,
returned to regular exercise and, above all, put some perspective into
the relative importance of her work and her health. Two years later and
65 kg (135 lbs) lighter, she is happier and more productive at work
because she has taken the time to look after herself. Another five years
on, and she is still at her goal weight, enjoying all manner of exercise
both new and familiar, and is more successful at work than ever before.
It
was at this point Pam decided to gain her qualifications as a Personal
Trainer – it’s amazing how much time we really have when we make
something a priority – with the objective of helping other busy women
to prioritise their own health and fitness in their lives.
One
way she saw was to provide a simple, safe and fun opportunity to
exercise for women travelling to Sydney. What better to start a working
day than to get out of the office and get moving. The other was to offer
personal training to women that respected their personal fitness goals
and capacities – the chance to train with someone who knows what it
feels like to be female and not as young as they used to be!
And
so, Women on the Move was
born…
